Відділення інтенсивної терапії призначене для проведення процедур, спрямованих на лікування пацієнтів з тяжкими порушеннями функцій життєво важливих органів внаслідок хвороби або нещасного випадку, а також догляду після складних операцій. Такі процедури, як серцево-легенева реанімація, серцева реанімація та штучне дихання, вимагають спеціального медичного обладнання.
